Crowd funding is all about raising finance for your film /media /art project or indeed any other worthy or not cause via an online platform like indiegogo ( www.indiegogo.com): you tell people what it is all about and ask them to donate money in return for “perks” you grant them, ie: name in credits / tickets to premiere etc etc…
It does work and it is working for many thousands of people around the world from those wanting to raise a few thousands to some who have raised over a million!! It is a fast growing phenomenon and if you follow a few simple rules it can work for you:
SO here they are:
The key is CROWD: grow your crowd before you launch: prep the ground and maximize your reach via any online communities you or you key collaborators have.
The PROJECT is the heart : ensure you communicate the heartbeat of your project effectively using txt / photos a short video
PERKS are essential: make sure they hit what your audience want and that it wont cost you the earth to deliver!!
Give it a try and post here thoughts / questions / stories of what you have done…

been looking at this stuff for a while and wondering if it might be a way forward
your comments were very helpful thanks
Thanks Lou, i would really encourage you if you feel you have the right project to consider using crowd funding, it can work if you follow the basic set up rules and work hard!
Make sure you read the small print on the various sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo as each distribute the funds slightly differently as well as taking different fees.
